Your help and assistance, please! I think my Word Document was corrupted. After I encoded my homework in MS Word, I saved the data. But then, to my surprise, when I checked the file I saved, I noticed that it became corrupt. I have saved it both in HDD and a flash disk just to be sure. But, when I tried to open the file, all I saw were squares, alphanumeric symbols and other unknown texts. How will I be able to recover the document file? Thank you.

Hi user

Documents stored in flash drives are more likely to become corrupt. Check whether both files you stored are correct. Try viewing the document in Unicode. If that doesn't work then you can try opening the file with notepad.

Right click on the document and expand Open With, now select Notepad in the list of programs. You should be able to see the text part of the files, other things such as images and special format cannot be recovered. If that too fails then download this free software at http://www.repairmyword.com/. It allows you to try and repair corrupted word files.

If your file is important and get corrupted, then you are in trouble. But, by following some ticks, you can avoid this. Here are some ways you can give a try when you are facing with corrupted word document.

1.       Don’t assume that the file is corrupted. The behavior of the file could be due to windows or ms office problem. Try opening the other document or open that assumed corrupted file on other computer.

2.       Make a copy of the document: before trying to recover the corrupted file, you should make a copy. There is a chance that things might become worse over.

3.       Check your email: you may have emailed that document before. So check the email.

4.       You can use words text converter

5.       Try open and repair option.
