Questions on Postini and Exchange Server

We were tasked to bring down our Exchange server in preparation for an upgrade and we are using Postini and Mail Bagging services for a day or more.

I am wondering how much time does it take for Postini to collect all our mails so we can estimate when we should back up our server?

Is it advisable to end mail delivery to Postini for the time being, before we take the server down?

As I have mentioned we are scheduled to upgrade our Exchange server this week and would like to hear some suggestions regarding the matter.

Thanks.

I hope this helps.

You Activate Postini with a Catch-all e-mail account.

The catch-all email account is not advisable because with catch-all and automatic account creation, it would be difficult to send thousands of email to users that will cause the Postini to create a new account for every email address. So if you have a catch-email account, the automatic account creation is turned OFF in Postini for you.

You can do any of the following:

  • One way is to Remove the catch-all account. After doing that, send an email to [email protected] so they will know you have removed the catch all email account, and they will turn on automatic creation of account.
  • Another way is to see the section on Deactivating Postini.
  • And Request a Domain Administrator account, it allows you to manually add addresses for any catch all email accounts that you use. The automatic account creation will still not work. Just see the section titled How To Use Postini As A Domain Administrator on the Domain Administrator accounts.
