Question Regarding Hard Drive Enclosures

Hello,

I am looking for a way to turn my spare internal 3.5 inch hard drive into external ones. I have heard that an enclosure is one way to do this, but I don't know much about them. I am looking for some help with regards to this.

These are the things that I expect the device to do:

1) Support Both IDE and SATA Internal Hard drives
2) Connect through USB
3) Support Large Capacity Hard Drives (At Least 1 TB)
4) Works with 3.5 inch internal hard drives

Thanks!

Hard drive enclosure for 3.5 inch 1 TB hard disk drive

Yes, it is true that you can make your extra hard disk drive as an external hard drive by using a hard disk drive enclosure. However, using this device or the hard disk drive enclosure varies with its speed. But this speed can be gained by purchasing the fastest hard disk drive enclosure which is defined as their transfer rate.

There are so many hard disk drive enclosures. You may find both on Amazon and E-bay whatever fits to your requirements. One of these is the “INEO I-NIA 302U, 3.5-Inch IDE/SATA Hybrid External Hard Drive Enclosure to USB 2.0 Galaxy Neon Light” (this is not a recommendation but it is suitable for your hardware requirements). You may find some other brands with the same specifications or higher than the transfer rate speed of the mentioned product above. Most of the hard disk drive enclosures cost $29.00 as of today.

You may log-in to e-bay or amazon to look for a product and their specifications. The first thing to do is to create an account and then log-in. And on the search bar of the site, type 3.5 hard disk drive enclosure, then search. You may also use general or shorter terms for more results. On the list of results, click the product, or it would be best to right click the product then view it in a new window or tab to make the search listing stay in the browser. Browse the page, then on the bottom, you may find some comments or reviews from the buyers as well as the product description.

Installation is too easy. You don’t need to be an expert computer technician to install the product. Just connect the hard disk drive inside the enclosure, then plug the USB cable and power.

Most of the recent hard disk enclosures now support the ones that you have listed. I have found here a product that would really fit to your description, More info here.

I also would recommend that you search at amazon because they have reviews about products and its ratings. E-bay is also a good place to search for quality items. You should always look closely to the description though, because some of the items were already used or second hand products and not brand new ones.

The most important thing to remember when buying an HDD enclosure, is that it must be very durable.

There are some cases where you might drop it. And you might lose a lot of data if your HDD gets damaged.
