Hi there,
“Protocol Unknown” is the error message I am getting. What meaning does this have?  This happens when trying to patch into the PCM.  A 1996 Impala SS It 1 w/ 4160e is what I am trying to patch in. A Serial and UBS scan tools have been tried but with the same results. Any solutions can I troubleshoot and test out?

Hi Nicko, Protocol unknown error is genetic, we cannot pinpoint what is the cause, it might be:

1.Client/server firewall-  just be sure that you are not running firewall, and your server PPTP can received connection on  port and protocol 47 is allowed. If there is router that has configured section of the so called filters, change it.

2. Faulty installation or permission related- check the registry and system look for missing software/file association

3. Patching kernel and recompiling – install kernel source, iptables source, download newest patch-o-matic

4. Uncompress patch -o-matic.  run.'/runme.pptp-conntrack.nat

5.Configure and recompile kernel
