Hi there,

How do I recover my documents  after updating Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, since it was an update, I was expecting to find my desktop intact, does updating delete My Documents, rolling back to previous versions does not help me, how does rolling back my updates work?

Hello,

I understand that you must be thinking that you have lost all your files. If you haven’t already found the solution, all the files from your last installation of Windows is saved in a folder called “Windows.old”. So if you haven’t backed up your files, it is still present in your system.

  1. Go to the installation drive of Windows (say C: if you have installed Windows in C: )
  2. You will find a folder called Windows.old but considering the number of times you have re-installed Windows, you might have multiple folders called Windows0.old, Windows1.old, etc.
  3. Double click on the folder and you will find your old documents
