Problems connecting to Wi-Fi after changing ISP

Hi,

My Netbook has been having problems connecting to Wi Fi since I changed my ISP from O2 to Orange. When I change the Netgear routers security to “Disable” I can connect to Wi Fi but when the “mixed WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK” option is chosen data won’t transfer even though a message says the network is connected.

My Netbook is an Acer Aspire and I’m using a Windows XP operating system. I have changed the router security settings and contacted my ISP’s help desk but neither has provided a solution.

Has someone had a similar problem?

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Problems connecting to Wi-Fi after changing ISP

Hello Alex,

I guess you should just disable the Netgear routers security settings if you are able to connect to Wi-Fi that way, for the router may be set to work that way. If you have been making changes to the router settings then that could be another possible cause of the problem. To resolve the issue you will need to do the following:

  • Revert to the settings the Netgear router was configured with your ISP, for altering them might cause issues.
  • If you do not remember the settings you will need to call your ISP and have them tell you those settings or come and reconfigure the router again.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Carl
