Hi Experts. I am getting a message about Windows logo testing. It says that the software I am trying to install didn’t pass the Windows Logo testing and it might not be safe to install it. I am not sure what it means. Can you please help me understand this? Is my computer in danger? Thanks a lot for reading.

Hi Cathy!

*The Windows Logo Test is a test developed by Microsoft to prevent you from installing softwares/hardwares  to prevent any errors in the system.

*If you receive this error, there is a good chance that the software you are currently installing or one of the files associated with it, is not designed for the version of Windows you are using.

* There is no error in your computer. In fact, this error prevents you from making any harm to your computer.

*To solve this, make sure that you download the latest version of the software you are currently installing.

*Please make sure that the software is safe and free from virus. Check for the credibility of the vendor/creator of the software before downloading and installing.

*If the software is safe and legitimate and downloading the software does not fix the problem, contact their customer support.

*Update your Windows by enabling Windows' automatic update.

This error is the same in all versions of Microsoft Windows from Windows XP onwards and you will see this frequently when installing unsigned drivers. The full error reads:

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.

Microsoft developed these tests as a way to help avoid errors with the Windows operating system and hardware-related drivers that are installed. When you install a driver software and you encounter this error, this doesn’t mean that the driver is not compatible with your computer or with the operating system.

It just wants to warn you that you are about to install a driver that is not signed by Microsoft and does not have the Microsoft logo. When a driver software bears the Microsoft logo, it means the software has undergone testing and is free from any compatibility errors with the operating system.

When you encounter this error upon installation, first thing to do is check and verify that the software is compatible with your operating system. If you verify that the driver is compatible as indicated by the manufacturer or by the developer, just go ahead and click “Continue Anyway” to continue with the installation.

If you encounter errors after the installation, just uninstall the driver software or download an updated version.
