I’ve downloaded a new version of Ubuntu which is version 11.04.

I am currently running an old version of it which is Ubuntu 9.10. I decided to upgrade it to a newer version, but I get an error during the process.

I need help upgrading my Ubuntu. Any suggestions would gladly be appreciated.

The problem is you are trying to upgrade Ubuntu 9.10 directly to 11.04.

This link from ubuntu.com shows what upgrade paths are supported:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes

As you will see from the above link, Ubuntu only supports upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, 10.04 to 10.10 and 10.10 to 11.04.  Therefore, to upgrade 9.10 to 11.04, you will have to first upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 then upgrade your 10.04 to 10.10 and finally upgrade your 10.10 to 11.04.

Before proceeding with each upgrade, you should first ensure that all updates for your current version have already been installed.

Kindly check the link I provided since it already contains all the information you will need.

Good luck on your upgrade and post back to let us know how it turned out.
