Hello there,

I am using Windows XP for like 2 months now. I don't know much about it. Last day I started PC, it showed NTLDR File missing, Press any key to Restart. I didn't do anything.  What is that for?  What do I do now? Do I need to install another OS?

To resolve your problem, do the following steps;

First of all you have to make sure that floppy diskette or CD is available or not in your computer. If it is there then removed it, because sometime computer attempts to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk.

Check your boot setting in BIOS. If you have to install from the CD-ROM, then it should be the first boot device. I am giving you instructions for Windows XP.

  • Enter bootable CD of “Windows XP” into the computer.
  • Then it will ask you to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  • Press the "R" key in the setup menu.
  • Log in to your Windows installation, press 1 and enter.
  • If you are asked, enter your administrator password.
  • Copy the files e:i386ntldr c: and copy e:i386ntdetect.com c: to the root directory of the primary hard disk.
  • Now remove the CD from the computer and re-start the. I hope it will fix your problem

Its look like you have deleted some important window file from your system so you need to repair it so window can work properly. There are many methods to repair your windows copy you can follow one form them.

Boot on your system and while booting press F8 key several times and then make sure that you get some options for your window the options can be to run you window in safe mode, Run your window normally and other as well. You need to select the option of repair your windows components and window recovery option and then press enter. Once you go through the process your whole window directory will be repaired and your window will work fine.

The second way you can do this is to insert your window CD in drive and make a copy of your current window by just repairing your window and it will also solve your problem.

Hello Dear,

Thanks that you have shared your problem with us.

Dear NTLDR is a file which keeps booting configuration. You can find this file in C: (hidden file).

You cannot repair this file. This file has no extension.

And you have encountered with this error due bad sector or corruption of this file.

You should have to reinstall your windows. But keep in mind that when you will select the partition in windows installation setup, the setup will format your C drive. Kindly choose NTFS file system to format your drive. It will prevent your computer from this error in future.

Thanks
