Hi Experts,

The problem is with my office web applications. I received an error message.

Look at the screenshot.

Microsoft PowerPoint Web App

Sorry, we couldn't open this presentation

because we ran into a problem. Please try

again.

                                           OK

SharePoint 2013 is organized with RC Windows 2012 server and Office 2013 web applications are also running with a separate server of Windows 2012 RC. SQL 2008 R2 is running on the same server. Pptx file was added to the document library. From here (Open Menu Link) I was asked for a username and password.

In this position I received the error message mentioned above. It is not a regular phenomenon for this site to ask authentication though it has several users.

Any suggestion in respect of the above mentioned problems is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kenneth,

To resolve that issue, try denying the Administrator read permissions to the %programdata%MicrosoftFCI folder using the following steps.

  • Open the command prompt by clicking Start, type cmd.
  • And then right click the Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  • After that enter the following command into the command prompt:
  • icacls ""%programdata%MicrosoftFCI"" /deny *S-1-5-32-544:(OI)(CI)R
  • And then press Enter.

Regards,

Carl

The problem you are experiencing seems that you cannot open, view, or edit presentations from SharePoint Online site, while the same presentation can be edited in SharePoint 2013. To fix this, you might want to try to upload other PowerPoint files or even other Word or Excel files in the site, and try to view or edit them to check if it is a different file problem.

In addition to this, if you are using Internet Explorer, clean its cache and check the error appears again.

Also, before editing files via Office Web Apps, please make sure that the users are assigned with an Office Web Apps License.
