Hi Experts,

The problem is with my Avast! Information. I received an error message regarding a secure connection from mail program (process thunderbird.exe) which is detected by Avast.

It also says “This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your mail.

The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself”. I am anxious with the error message.

Please help me to solve the issue.

avast! Information

avast! has detected a secure connection from your mail program (process thunderbird, exe) to the SMTP server 74.128.0.21 (insightbb.com).

This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your mail. The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself.

Hello.

SSL is nothing but secure socket layer. SSL is mainly used for secure authentication of websites and emails.

Usually websites containing SSL certificates doesn’t require any antivirus scanning because they are already secured.

That’s the main reason avast showed that error information. You need not bother about this message and you can continue with your work.

Thank you.

Hello Jai Zadok,

If you want Avast Mail Scanner to scan your emails, you will have to use non-SSL ports or disable it entirely. However, you will lose security whenever there is incoming mail so do it at your own risk. It depends on whether you want Mail Scanner to scan your emails or not.

Another is to uninstall Avast and reinstall them, but instead of using default installation, use custom installation and unselect the Mail Scanner.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks my friends, your knowledgeable information is very valuable. Opland Pamela, in fact I did not know about the loose security of incoming mail. After reading your solution, now I am using non-SSL ports which you recommended. I am also utilizing custom installation and I have unselected the Mail Scanner. At present, abiding by your directions, I am not facing any more problems. Thanks again Opland Pamela.
