Problem with Mac after trying to turn off the light from webcam

I’m trying to fix a problem with my Mac. My problem with my Mac started when I tried to turn off the light from the webcam by restarting the Mac. Please note that there’s no reason for the light from the webcam to be lit up since no chatting application is being used. Restarting the Mac didn’t solve the problem so I opted to shut down by pressing the power button. Thirty minutes had already passed, but all I’ve got is a screen that shows an Apple logo with a spinning gear in a gray screen background. I’ve been figuring out the next procedure to take. Any ideas what should be done next to solve the problem?

Hello, If your Mac is still enclosed through AppleCare, this maybe a better time to bring it back to an Apple Store where you bought or you can call Customer Service for assistance. A Kernel Panic that is sometimes happened when you have the screen loading for several minutes or hours is a indication that you have a serious problem. I'd say that about 60% to 90% of the time kernel panics are due to a hardware problems. In order of probability, that problem is commonly: a bad USB port, bad third party RAM and unwanted Mac devices.

If you can boot from your system installer DVD, I'd guess that is the chances of your problem being due a software difficulties are very minimal. Can you startup with the Shift key held down? If still not working, then it is almost definitely a hardware problem.
