Problem login to Windows Live Messenger 8.0

Hello friends,

This post is all about my problem on Windows Live Messenger 8.0 when signing in. I have just finished reformatting my computer and installed Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. I downloaded a new copy of windows live messenger 8.0.

I was successful installing the client software, but when I was about to login there is an error that says:

Sorry, we were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger 8.0 at this time. Please try again later.

To let us try and troubleshoot the problem, click the Troubleshoot button.

Error Code: 80048820

Extended Error Code: 800484416

Before posting this problem, I already checked my internet connection, its up and running with a good quality of speed. I also checked on my firewall, its not blocking the traffic. I also reinstalled a newly downloaded copy of the client software, after all of this, still I cannot login.

Please help me solve this issues.

  • This problem does not have directly to do with Messenger itself but Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  • It will happen when the Microsoft Internet Explorer SSL settings are not correct.
  • To solve this problem the following steps can be carried out:
  1. Launch Internet Explorer
  2. On the Tools menu, click on Internet Options. 
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Click on “Security” and make sure that the Check for Server certificate revocation (requires restart) check box is unchecked. 
  5. Click OK. 
  6. Exit Internet Explorer. 
  • The procedure to uncheck “Check for Server Certificate Revocation” might vary a little with the version of your Internet Explorer. You can play with your Internet Explorer Options in your PC to find this out and uncheck!
  • Sign in to Messenger again. You should be able to sign in to your messenger smoothly.

Hello Paulartney!

For your MSN Messenger Error, there might be several problems due to which it happens. First check your IP setting as described above in your internet explorer browser. Also check your date and time settings if they are up to date. Another manual option to fix this issue is given below in the image. Run exactly what is prescribed in the image. Hope this will help you out.
