I recently installed a winzip software in this new laptop. I was able to use everything and all ok. When I tried to launch a game it showed “missing direct x9…” Did I do something wrong? Please tell me what are the things I did wrong and provide instructions for each how to resolve or correct my mistakes? Is it because of the software that I just installed? Is there any way that we can still resolve this or shall I format the laptop right away? Give me also alternative ways? Thank you very much and have a nice day!

Hello Stephen!

There are several reasons that made your DLL files missing or corrupt. As you mentioned you installed a software recently that you downloaded. That must be infected with a virus that contributed to this problem. Using an anti-virus software will help you eliminate this problem. However yours is already infected the only thing that we can do is to reinstall the DirectX 9 or look for update.

1.  Using the video card installation cd is not a bad idea. Just insert it your cd-rom and look for the option to install DirectX 9. Full restart of your computer must be done to make the changes to effect in your system.

2.  Downloading from a secured and authorized website will be the best option for you. Do not just download your copy of DirectX 9 from any random website. Most of those .cab file and or .rar files were infused with viruses.

3.  You can download DirectX versions from Microsoft’s website. You can also use their website to look for any other missing DLL files to bridge-in the gaps in your hardware and software.
