I have bought a brand new ACER ASPIRE 5742 laptop. I don't know why the battery and portion of the bottom surface containing cooling fan gets so hot. I use external laptop cooler. Yet my laptop bottom surface remains hot for hours of usage. Is that a

inherent trouble with my laptop?

Or it's the problem with my laptop cooler?

That laptop overheating may be caused by how you are handling it. In case you are placing the laptop on surfaces like mattresses which block the breathing space of the laptop, then that is the reason why it will definitely overheat. You will need to make sure that you are using the laptop on a surface that allows the breathing space to be opened and therefore allow it to cool off like tables. If you have to place it a place like a mattress, then you will need to make sure that it is raised to allow the breathing space to be open.

Normally the current computers should not be able to heat up too much since they have a better design and uses better technology and have components that use less power.

If your computer is running too hot and it’s not located in a very closed location and the area has proper ventilation, then the problem may be in the cooling system of the computer. Have ACER check that by calling them and they will run diagnostics on it or troubleshoot with you. Chances are if your system is indeed overheating they will replace parts or you will get a new system.
