Problem being experienced by a number of Notes users

There is this strange problem being experienced by a number of Notes users that I have been unable to get the root cause. These users run into a situation whereby their Lotus notes clients suddenly begin to hang during the process of opening. This frequently occurs when they access some invites or response items. For now restarting the computer is the only solution to this problem.

I also tried reconfiguring the template in the mail file however it produced both positive and negative effects. I am however looking for a way to fix this problem once and for all. I am wondering if this is connected to usernames in the invitee fields or the appending of the domain to each use. As you can notice I am confused and would like your help on this issue.

Dear  Cesmaniquiz,

The version of the Lotus Notes has not been mentioned here. This would have thrown better light in to the issue and as to what exactly happens after which Notes hang. However please find the below mentioned issue that IBM is already aware of.

Problem
Basically, when notes user work almost throughout the day, they would visualize the mini view going blank on the left hand side bottom. Besides when the users click on open tab the view becomes empty which was displayed earlier.

Workaround:
Shut down the client from the process list and boot the system again.

Symptom
Mini view goes blank and nlnotes .exe disappears from the process list.

Cause:
This is on account of the recent contacts feature. Whenever the client makes an attempt to parse a double byte email address to add in the Recent contacts view notes crashes and inevitably hangs the application.

The issue will be more apparent for users who receive or send mails in Chinese/Japanese, or language that contains such double byte character as seen in the example below

FIX:
This issue has been fixed in 8.5.1 Fix Pack 4 and 8.5.2.
