Printing over WAN through Citrix

We have clients connecting to our Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 over a WAN. They wanted the ability to print to their local LAN printers so I enabled printer mapping policy in the Presentation Server Console.

Now, when a client submits a document for printing, the document is stuck in the printer queue for spooling and then it finally prints. This spooling process can take up to 5 minutes to complete while blocking the rest of the printer queue. Can someone advise how this spooling time can be improved?

Hi kurtarcher,

I have several options that I will suggest that you try out.

First try setting the printer port in the BIOS to bi-direction. Sometimes it works perfectly that way.

Secondly tidy up the temp directory by deleting files through windows explorer. Clear the spool file directory which can be found on your primary hard drive. If your drive is C then it should be something like C:WindowsspoolPrinters. Delete everything in there. To access spool which is a hidden directory, turn on the appropriate setting in windows explorer for viewing it.

Thirdly, establish the memory that the printer has because the more memory the printer has the more jobs you can send at a time.
