You can mentioned about wireshark on your questions. Though it is one of the best but you want any another powerful, am I right? In this perpose, I suggest you to use Etherial. You can use it in fixing troubleshooting, analysis network or anything in the server, verious software and protocol development, and also learning oe education.
It’s most helpful features are-
1. You can read live data from ethernet, FDDI, PPP, Token-Ring, IEEE 802.11, Classical IP over ATM, and loopback interfaces (at least on some platforms; not all of those types are supported on all platforms).
2. You can captured network data.
3. Ethereal’s editcap program help you to capture files that can be mathmetically edited through it’s command line switches.
4. You may also use softperfect network protocol analyzer. Know more about it from- http://www.softperfect.com/products/networksniffer/
