I am trying to install the Power CLI on a computer that has recently been installed with Windows 2008 R2 Server.

During the installation, I got an error message saying

Error 1406. Could not write value InstallPath to key.

Has anybody experienced this problem?

This happens when the registry key was set to special permission. This kind of permission on Windows registry was done automatically and this happens during installation sessions. Maybe the special permission was set accidentally during your previous program installations. This can easily be override if the registry address where the key is located is included in the message. But unfortunately the dialog box only indicates the application URL and didn’t say about the registry location.

Since the installation doesn’t complete, try checking your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. After this try restarting the installation and be sure to run it as administrator. Try also to disable your antivirus to prevent any intervention in the operation. Just re-enable it back after the installation.
