Somebody please help me out. Abounding gratitude in advance and can anyone suggest to me the course of action to take?

Hi John

Usually thing problem will disappear after some time; after you restart the computer. If the problem persists then you will have to find a way around it.

If you are talking about windows update then here is the thing. Instead of updating manually you can turn on Automatic Updates option to download updates automatically as soon as it is available. These updates include the updates for the windows operating system, MS office applications, other Windows applications and the drivers for all the basic devices. Follow my instructions to turn on Automatic Updates

  1. Go to control panel from Start
  2. Double click on Automatic Updates.
  3. Click on Automatic (recommended) in the window that is opened.

The update button in your Windows Update windows is not clickable? Perhaps your Windows is already up to date and there are no available updates as of the time being? When was the last time that your computer installed an update? Try using a different user account with administrative access; does it have the same problem? If it does, try running a security scan on your system as it may already be compromised by a virus or spyware preventing the computer from doing an update. If it doesn’t happen in another administrator user account, then just have the problematic user account removed and create another one. Make sure your documents, shortcuts and favorites are backed up.
