I am getting this error when I tried to plug in my iPhone 4 to charge it – USB Device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. I just had my phone plugged in a few hours ago. Can someone explain this error to me?

When you receive a error message that usb device not recognize, it means that there are some drivers missing. Specifically, your usb drivers are missing or might be outdate. To update them, simply go to start>right click on computer>select device manager>right click on universal serial port and select update driver. Select search automatically. You need to be connected to the internet.

Alternatively, You might consider replacing your usb cablr you are using. This should work if the cable is faulty.

First, make sure you are using the latest iTunes. If you haven’t updated yet, it is more likely that you will have problems with your iOS device. Visit Download iTunes Latest to get the latest version. Once downloaded, run the installer to update iTunes. After updating iTunes, connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable then check if it can be recognized.

If your phone still can’t be recognized, restart your computer then try it again. If the problem continues, disconnect your phone from your computer then uninstall iTunes. Click Start, Control Panel, and then Add or Remove Programs. Select iTunes from the list then click Remove or Uninstall. When it is finished, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Disk Cleanup.

Select drive C then click OK. Check “Temporary files” and Setup Log Files, click OK, and then select Delete Files. Restart the computer then install the latest iTunes back. Also, check the USB cable you are using because the previous phone you connected to your computer also wasn’t recognized. If you have a different cable, use it instead.
