Because you are using Excel Online, you are using the online version of Microsoft Office which is called Office Online. Office Online is the web-based version of Microsoft Office, the Office suite package you normally install on your computer and runs offline or without the need for internet connection. Office Online doesn’t require any installation.

To access or use it, just go to Microsoft Office Home using your web browser and launch any of the online applications they provide. But before you can actually use one, you need to sign in using your Microsoft account or if you don’t have it you need to create one. Unlike Microsoft Office, Office Online offers very limited choices of applications.

Office Online provides Word Online, Excel Online, PowerPoint Online, and OneNote Online. If you need to use Microsoft Office Access, you’ll have to go with Microsoft Office because Office Online doesn’t provide it.

Also, since Office Online is web-based, you access and use it using a web browser and a Microsoft account and since it is online, any issue that you will encounter will have to be caused by your internet connection. So, in your case, since you are using Excel Online when the problem occurred, you should check your internet connection.

Try visiting a different website and see how it goes. If you verify that your internet is down, unplug the network cable at the back of your CPU and then plug it in again. Try it again and see if it works. If the problem continues, contact your service provider. On the other hand, if your internet connection is fine, try using a different browser.

I’m sure like Google Docs, Office Online doesn’t require a fast connection. As long as you can access the website, send and receive files, then you are good to go.
