Hello David,

Actually this depends on your DVD player. If it is supports the file format which you are trying to play this will not be an issue. If you could mention the mode and the Brand Name of your DVD Player I can tell specifically file types supports by it. By the way I will give you an alternate solution for this matter.

Convert your files to .VOB file format using the ConvertxtoDVD.

Download ConvertxtoDVD

Then write those files like you normally write a Data DVD. It will play in your DVD player without any issues.
Thank you.

If you want to burn an ordinary file to a CD or create a data CD that is playable on a DVD player, you can use ImgBurn. The application allows you to create CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray depending on the optical drive you have. A DVD writer can burn both CDs and DVDs while a Blu-ray writer can burn CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs.

There are DVD writer/Blu-ray ROM drives that are already available which can burn DVDs and read Blu-ray discs. This type of drive can read CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays and burn CDs and DVDs. This drive is different from an ordinary DVD writer which can only read and burn CDs and DVDs. ImgBurn supports all versions of Microsoft Windows.
