We are using thirteen systems in our office and twelve systems in our laboratory. I think all systems are using the OS ‘Windows XP Service Pack 2’. Separate LAN connections are there in both places. I am planning to have ‘Database Server’ for managing our resource database. I have no idea about where will be suit to fix the Server.

Also need to know about the required specifications of a server for us. Can anybody give ideas to solve this problem?

If you have separate LANs, then you will be required to install the database server on each LAN. In case the database will not be used on all the LANs, then you can just identify one place that the database will be used and install it there. For instance, if the database will be used in the LAB then you can just install it there, and share it all the computers on the local area network that makes up the LABS.

About the specifications of the database server, all you will need to do is figure out what kind of projects you will be using it for, and also most importantly, you should make sure that the database that you get is the recent version that has improved features. I will recommend oracle 11i.
