My HP laptop sometimes suddenly working and I cannot reboot it normally from start menu. How do I perform a hard reset on HP Elitebook mobile workstation 8540w?
A forced restart clears all the data present in the computers memory and forces it to re-estabilish all the connections between the hardware component and BIOS. You must take out all peripheral devices before doing a hard reset.
1. Switch off the system.
2. Disconnect all your USB devices.
3. Unplug the adapter.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Press down the Power button for 20 seconds. This removes any residual charge from the capacitors.
6. Insert the battery.
7. Switch on the system.
8. Select ‘Start Windows Normally’ and press Enter.
9. Connect the peripheral devices one by one.
10. Update all drivers through Windows Update and HP Support Assistant.
