The signal strength of the ASUS USB wireless router is very poor even though it is placed directly downstairs the computer. Will the usage of PCI Card or USB Network adapter helps in improving the signal strength? Please suggest.

The signal detection is far more superior than built-in wireless capabilities of a laptop. You can in fact buy far more superior signal detection adapters than your laptop based wireless.
I can recommend D-Link wireless device like this. You can find cheaper deals in your local BestBuy or Ebay. You can also read a bit on Adapters and its types to choose what would be better for your needs. Based on your usage e. g. home, office or neighborhood you can select appropriately.
