Palm Desktop Error: “Failed to open Address Book Database”

Please help me to get rid of the problem as I have no idea why it started in the first place. I tried to initiate my Palm Desktop and immediately “Failed to open Address Book Database” message popped up.

Not having any choice I had to exit clicking ‘Cancel’. I tried the ‘Hot Sync’ option. It didn’t work, and ‘Sync Expenses’ process continued throughout the day. I didn’t try it before and kept the option disabled in the past. How is it possible to fix the problem as the Address Book Database won’t open?

I have even uninstalled the program and installed the latest version of Palm Desktop application, but all my efforts went in vain. I would appreciate your opinion regarding the situation, and I need it badly.

Try these suggestions:

  1. Try the Hot Sync option but make sure the conduit option is set to "Handheld overwrites desktop". This should work if you have a corrupted datebook file.
  2. Go to the Hot Sync Manager and make sure the conduit is set to "Do Nothing". That is if you don't want to use HotSync.
  3. To fix the corrupted address book., you can use a menu option found in your Palm Software. But before you do this, make sure you have all your current info as this will delete what's on your Palm Desktop. Go to the Palm folder location in your pc and open your user folder. Delete these folders: datebook, memopad, address, notepad and todo. Run the Palm Desktop application and do a hotsync. After doing the hotsync, do not click on anything else on the Palm Desktop. Once hotsync finishes, go to Tools on your Palm Desktop, choose Options. Go to the Tools tab then click on Check Now. This will fix your corrupted data. Click Ok to finish.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
