Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create. Then delete the problem Inbox as follows.

Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in windows Explorer or copy and paste it into the Start > Run.

In Win XP, Win 2K 7 Win2K3 the OE user files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in windows Explorer, you must enable Shoe hidden Files and Folders under Start > Control panel > Folder option > View.

With OE closed, find the Inbox dbx and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for OE:

Do not archive mail in the Inbox or sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the message you wish to save them.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *Offline* and do it often.

Click on OE at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open.

Then: File>Work>Offline (or double click Working Online in the status Bar). File>Folder>Compact all folders.

Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Microsoft Outlook Express is the email client integrated with Microsoft Windows upon installation. This email client doesn’t normally encounter errors since it is not the usual application that you install separately. If opening this component generates error on your screen then might as well check if your system has errors. You can use any disk utility applications like Norton Utilities, PC Tools Performance Toolkit, or the old Norton SystemWorks. All these applications have drive diagnostics tool that you can use to check to correctness of your file system.

Errors usually happen because also of errors in the file system and you cannot really avoid it. Use any of these programs to check your computer. If this doesn’t fix the problem, you can always use an alternative email client in replacement for Microsoft Outlook Express. This is the only solution since you really cannot uninstall Microsoft Outlook Express.

The best alternative to this email client is Microsoft Office Outlook which I think is really the full version of Microsoft Outlook Express.
