Operations on my laptop slowing down

Hi there,

I have an Asus Zenbook UX51Vz laptop running on Windows 8, recently I have noticed it is taking longer to boot, after booting, the computer is running okay until I try to launch an application when the computer takes longer to launch, explorer is working painfully slowly, task manager shows less than 20% usage in all aspects but with applications running, the disk usage jumps to 100% and sticks there, what could be causing this problem?

There can be multiple reasons for this slowness. It could be hardware issue too.

1. Try to see which application is causing performance bottleneck.

2. Start Task Manager.

3. Click on Processes tab. Click on 'Memory' as shown in figure below.

4. The processes consuming highest memory/ CPU may be the culprit.

Bad sectors in Hard Disk can be a reason too. Try to defragment your HDD. This can be effective too.
