I can't get the attached mail attachment to open on my blackberry device.  I am on a data plan.  I've tried opening it, but it doesn't work.  Am I missing something?

Hello, firstly which attachment are you trying to open. Some versions of BlackBerry can’t open some of the most attached files like Microsoft Word documents or PDF files; you will need to install other applications for that to open them. A BlackBerry can’t open a zip file either, these are only some of the file types I am talking about. There are literally thousands of file types and BlackBerry can’t open all of them. If you are trying to open office files, install ‘ docs on the go ‘ application for BlackBerry and it will open all of your word documents, excel sheets, power point presentations and also PDF files in the latest version of BlackBerry os7.

If you downloaded the attachment on your email to your BlackBerry handset, make sure you have an app that can open the downloaded attachment. If the attachment is a text file, open it on your handset using a text editor app or a word processor app. You should check the format of the file you downloaded.

You can do this by checking the properties of the file on your handset. If you are not familiar with the file extension used, try transferring it on your computer and check if your machine has a program that can open the file. If it doesn’t have it either, look for the extension on the internet using your web browser.

Try searching Google for the extension name used on the attached file and check what application can open it. Next, look for a BlackBerry version of that app and install it on your phone so you can open the file on your BlackBerry handset. You cannot open a file on your handset if you don’t have a program that supports it.
