Hello all,

When I try to install the Office Software Protection Platform I ended up with an error message. This error message is not allowing further steps, three options ends with the same error. For your information I have the trial version. Do I need to get the Office full version to avoid this error? Please help me to resolve this error. Thanks.

First of all you have to check that you have administrative privilege in the system where the installation is taking place to avoid any access related issues.

This issue happens when the Network Service account do not have the right access permissions on C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform.

To do this, follow these steps below depending on the OS: –

For Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003: In the command prompt (DOS window) run the following command. Once done install the application again.

cacls "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform" /t /e /p "Network Service":F

For Windows 7: In the command prompt (DOS window) run the following command. Once done install the application again.

icacls "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform" /grant "Network Service:F" /t

It seems the error you are receiving is related to permission and the application being in trial version has nothing to do with the problem. If you are logged in to your computer using a standard account, you need to use a different account with administrative privileges. In Microsoft Windows, only administrator accounts are allowed to install programs.

Non-admin accounts are not allowed to install applications that require full permissions. You can still install applications with this type of account but only basic ones. On the other hand, if you are already using an administrator account with this error, try running the installer using the “Run as” option. Right-click the setup file and select “Run as administrator.” See if this works.

If this doesn’t work, make sure the application has not been installed on your computer before and has never expired. If you installed the program before and it expired, there’s no way you can install it again because trial programs can only be installed once and can never be reinstalled.
