Odd message under Chrome 8 after installing MCafee VirusScan 8.8i

I have begun to test McAfee Virus Scan 8.8 with bundled Patch 1.

I Have seen Chrome 8 report this strange message on at least two systems.

It’s not very useful to the end user, as all that it states is this: ids_ss_name ids_ss_version.

Has anybody else witnessed this particular problem? If you have seen it, have you also found a solution?

Also, just in case this is relevant info, we are managing this VSE 8.8 via ePO 4.6.

Error:  another program on your computer would you like to modify with the following add-on:

IDS_SS_NAME IDS_SS_VERSION

By McAfee, Inc .

Location: C:program Files (x86)Common FilesMcAfeesystem….

Install add-ons only from author’s whom you trust.

Allow this installation

You can always change your mind at any time by going to the add-ons manager.

Hi Robert,

You are getting this message because some browsers does not allow extensions and plugins to be silently installed by applications.

It requires a user interaction or approval.

Firefox also reported similar issue. Please see this. This guides how user can allow user controlled ad on’s

Steps:

  1. Select Allow this installation.
  2. Click Continue.

This should resolve your issue. You will not be asked to confirm this again when running Chrome on future occasions.

Hope this helps to resolve your issue.

If you have McAfee antivirus and you see that message when you start Google Chrome, it means your antivirus includes a plug-in for your browser which is great. If you are prompted to install the plug-in, just install it since you know it’s from your McAfee antivirus. There should be no problem.

When you install the plug-in on your Google Chrome, you are sure to be protected against malicious and rogue websites that you might accidentally bumped into when surfing the internet. When the plug-in is installed and you visited an unknown website that is listed to contain malicious and dangerous contents, the site will be blocked and will stop loading.

Sometimes the website will not be blocked but you will see a warning on the screen about the website you are visiting. In case the site is not blocked, the plug-in will provide you options to either proceed to the website with caution or go back to the previous page.
