NovaBackup 12.2 installation failure due to unknown error

Hi Experts,

When attempting to install the new NovaBACKUP 12.2, I keep getting the following error message that says there is a problem with this Windows Installer package. I have NovaBACKUP 12.1 installed in my system without any issues. So I customized my install to include only NovaBACKUP local devices. The installation begins and a little while into the installation, I face the error message shown in the attachment. And I find that this partial installation has removed my 12.1 version of NOVABACKUP. So I finally ended up installing NovaBACKUP 12.1 again. And thankfully, this went smoothly without a glitch. Now the question is what is the issue with NovaBACKUP 12.2 when a previous version can work smoothly in the same environment using windows 7? Thanks in advance.

NovaBackup 12.2 installation failure due to unknown error

This is pretty weird having to install the same software with different versions. Actually, there are times this is possible on some programs that allow it but most of the time and I think majority of the applications you install on Microsoft Windows doesn’t allow two installations of the same application even if they differ in version.

In reality, it’s kind of useless to still keep the old version installed if you want to install the latest version. The reason why majority of the applications doesn’t allow installing of the new version if the old version is not removed is that the application or both applications use the same resources in Microsoft Windows.

This is the same thing that happens when you upgrade a program like for example your web browser. When you want to install the latest version of your favorite web browser, you don’t need to manually uninstall the old version before you run the installer for the new version. When you run the installer for the new version, it will automatically uninstall the old version and will replace it with the new version and that’s how upgrading is done.

In your case, if NovaBACKUP doesn’t allow you to install the 12.2 version if the 12.1 version is still installed, this means it is not capable of upgrading the old version to the new version and you need to manually uninstall the old version before you can install NovaBACKUP 12.2. Better yet, download the latest version from NovaBACKUP Professional 15.

It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 as well as Windows Small Business Server 2003, Windows Small Business Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Small Business Server 2011, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2012 Service Pack 1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.
