Hi Apple experts,

I want to restore Apple 3G iPhone. But when I am trying to do the same it is hanging on a page which displays that ‘It is not necessary to restore your device and not able to receive and make calls’. But when I click on ‘Restore’ and error message is coming which shows that ‘Not able to restore iTunes. The error code is 23. I am using iTunes 8.2.1 with Mac OSX.  I have also tried to restore with Windows. But the same result has come.

Please guide me to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance.

hello,

At this current time, it isn't possible to restore your iPhone without updating to 3.1.3 . Even with shift restore using 3.1.2 software, iTunes will give you an error. Apple is no longer validating it. Wait for a fix with the new update. If you do update to 3.1.3, you won't be able to JB it again.

It’s hard to find the exact solution on fixing the error 23 that appears in iPhone. Others say that the error 23 you see on the iPhone is a “radio” error which still doesn’t have a solution. There are also ones that say that it happens when a user tries to restore an iPhone, iPad, or an iPod touch. The error means the device can’t enter into restore mode and usually displays the message “The iPhoneiPhone’ could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (23).”

Even if it sounds un-repairable, it still can be fixed. Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple | iTunes | Download iTunes and then install it on your computer. Restart your phone in DFU mode. Open iTunes and then connect your phone to your computer via the USB cable. Press and hold Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. After that release the Sleep/Wake button but continue holding the Home button until your phone displays “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode”. You are now in DFU mode or Device Firmware Mode. Press OK after that.

Next is to backup your phone and then restoring it. Open iTunes on your computer then in the “Devices” column on the left of the window, right-click the iPhone icon then select Backup. Wait for the device to be fully backed up. Right-click on the iPhone icon again then select “Restore from Backup”. See the image below to complete the procedure.
