I tried installing Norton Internet Security 2012 and the process was just fine, however when I restart my computer, it was missing and funny enough all my programs and files in the Programs Data directory and Program files directory have been deleted.

I am unable to access any program and the Windows restore program is not working.

Please help me fix this.

Dear Stephen Vanness,

Norton Antivirus deletes files if your file is infected by virus. It also deletes system files.

So problems started there. You can use data recovery software to get the data back.

Download this software this link:

I suggest that it’s better to setup Windows again. Then scan your whole PC.

It's better to use updated antivirus.

Before scanning your drive, you can make a back up with a Pendrive or extra hard drive.

Thanks.

Hi there Stephen Vanness,

I am sorry to hear about your troubles with Norton Security. Since you were able to get inside your Windows, i assume your system is running but only files are missing.

This can happen because of several reasons – there is a known issue with malicious copies of Norton Antivirus, so if you haven't purchased your product via developer's webpage it is possible that your computer has been infected with some sort of virus.

It is logical that Windows restore is not working as the programs are removed, so only restore option you can use is the one built into your computer, if you have any.

One more thing you can do before considering factory reset is to enter the Safe mode and using Norton Removal Tool remove Norton completely from your System, just as any other security tools you had installed. Once you're done, try rebooting and see if there is any difference and eventually try to recover data with some data recovery tools.

Best regards,
Drake Vivian
