No VGA & HDMI picture is distorted

I have a HP Pavilion laptop with a broken screen. I actually know how to replace the screen but my problem is on the display. In any other laptop, I would hook up the computer to another computer screen via the VGA cable. Now, this laptop does not have a VGA port and I have to connect it via a HDMI cable. On connection, I get a half display on my Tv screen and the pictures look very distorted. Why are they messed up when everything is connected properly and the TV monitor is okay? Is the computer having a bigger problem other than just the screen? Is it a Mobo or GPU issue? Help me test or solve for this issues.

If your laptop’s screen is now broken, you have many options to use a different monitor or visual display. If you want to use your TV as your laptop monitor connecting it via HDMI but you only get half of the display and the image looks pretty messed up, try replacing the HDMI cable.

Purchase a new HDMI cable and use it to connect your laptop to your TV screen and see the difference. If the result is the same and you still get half of the screen, try using a USB external video card so you can connect your laptop to a normal monitor via the VGA cable.

Visit StarTech USB to VGA External Video Card. It is an external video card that you can connect to your USB 2.0 port with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. See image.

It is compatible with Windows 2000 32-bit only, 32-bit and 64-bit Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
