I have a Windows XP laptop connected to a domain. When it got disconnected, it uses the cached login details and login as a workgroup member rather than as a domain member. Also, I am unable to select the domain name in the login window since the option is not available. How do I enable the domain selection option back in the login window?

To change the computer name , to join a domain:

Use one of the following methods:

Click Start, right click My Computer then Properties.

1. Click the Computer Name tab then Change.

2. Type the new computer name in the Computer name box.

3. Type the domain in the Domain dialog box.

4. Click More to change the primary Domain Name System (DNS) suffix.

5. Click OK three times, & then restart the computer.

Note- Windows XP Home Edition isn’t planned to join a domain. Therefore, use Windows XP Professional to join a domain.

To login on a domain you need to first make your computer as a workgroup computer. To make your computer a part of work group you can follow these steps. You need to go to the computer properties and then you can go to the computer name and then you need to make your computer a part of a computer domain. You can do this easily and then you will be able to see the users of your computers domains and you will be able to login to a domain. Also check your network properly to see that there is no error in your network. It will solve your problem.
