The Kinect natural user interface is a motion sensor device by Microsoft to capture user motions to perform different tasks. Microsoft is currently using it in its game console Xbox.

It is true that Microsoft is working to develop a new version of kinect for Windows 8 Apollo and it will be used in smart phones.

Microsoft is working hard to add it in windows 8 before its launch or otherwise it will be added in first or second major update of Apollo. The biggest challenge for Microsoft is the hardware, as Kinect requires three cameras and one of them should be infrared which is not possible so far. So may possible kinect work in daylight and in low light user may use voice recognition to use mobile. But we expect that Microsoft will do a great job.

Actually Microsoft, Google and Apple are working hard to give something special in a highly competitive market of Smartphones. Apple developed Siri, so Microsoft is working on Kinect. Microsoft is working on a different concept here, instead of using gyro and other sensors they are using camera for the user interface.

By this, mobile will be able to know what you want from your gestures in front of camera. Mobile will be wise enough to know that either it is in your hand or in the bag.

Kinect is a webcam-style motion sensing input device add-on for Xbox 360 gaming console and also for Microsoft Windows developed by Microsoft. With this device, it enables the users or the players to interact and control Xbox 360 via its natural user interface by making gestures and uttering spoken commands. You no longer need to hold the controller to actually manage the game console.

It was launched in different parts of the world in 2010 like in Australia, Europe, North America, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan. After it was launched that year, it now holds the Guinness World Record for the “fastest selling consumer electronics device” because it has been able to sell about 8 million units in just 60 days. The software technology that binds Kinect was designed by Rare which is a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studios and owned also by Microsoft. The range camera that Kinect uses to interpret specific gestures was designed by Prime Sense, an Israeli developer.
