I am using laptop computer at home and i work as a contractor on a online job site. This job requires clear internet connection to be able to do the job accurately. In the middle of my work, the network disconnects and the connection is gone. I restart the computer just i thought when doing that the connection will back to normal. But still the connection were out.

How can i reconnect the network? I don't know all about networking for my job is a writer. Can you help me fix this out? I maybe fired from my job if this problem exists.

Hi Deevhon,

This an intermittent connection. Are you using a wireless connection or is your laptop wired to the modem? Are you using a Cable Internet or DSL Internet? Are you using a router? What is the operating system of your computer? Are you connecting through a VPN? Are you using a firewall?

The questions above are very important for me to be able to picture out your network setup. It is very hard for me to determine whatever is causing your problem since you were not able to provide the complete data. However, let us just consider all the possible causes for thissue.

If you are connected straight to the modem:

  • Unplug the power from the modem. Wait for 30 seconds and make sure that the coaxial cable is screwed in tightly if you are using a cable modem and RJ11 if if you are using a DSL connection. Plug in the power cord after 30 seconds. You should be able to connect to the internet after.

Connecting through a router:

  • Unplug the power from the modem an the router. Wait for 30 seconds and make sure that the coaxial cable is screwed in tightly if you are using a cable modem and RJ11 If you are using a DSL connection, plug in the power cord after 30 seconds to the modem first. Plug in the power to the router. Restart your computer. You should be able to connect to the internet after.
  • If these steps wont help please provide me more information about your set up and I can definitely help you with this. This my total scope as a Network Technician.

Thank you.

If you have turned on windows automatic update option, this kind of situations could occur. Turn off Automatic update feature. And uninstall your modem or routers drivers, reinstall them.

This can be a virus issue also. Search for viruses by using good virus guard and delete them. Reinstalling is a better solution if your computer has been inflected.
