I am currently encountering a printer problem right now.

I'm about to print copy of my files then suddenly my printer seems not working properly.

The model of my printer is Canon MP145.

As I've seen, there are two cartridge inside my printer, the colored and the black.

The colored just run out of ink, so before I print the copy of my files I set-up the printer to print it as black and white then the printer wasn't responding.

Nothing happens at all, does anyone here encountered this problem before?.

Help me please regarding this issue!!

Printer doesn’t respond when printing

There are tons of reasons why there is no response on the printer when you send a document on the printer. Errors encountered during printing will makes the computer pops-up an error message to inform the user that the requested action is not performed. Error message also leads you to the error and as a guide to fix the problem. If the computer doesn’t prompt you any error but you are able to perform the print command, but no output on the printer, the printer also have a problem that need to be fixed.

Most of the printers today especially Canon and Epson are used to convert their Ink tanks or cartridges into a continuous ink system. Canon and Epson stored information into the printer’s memory for the printing activities made on the printer like waste counters. When you have reached the maximum count the specific event like what we have said before, the waste counter; your printer won’t work anymore unless if you have the tool to reset the counters. These only happened when you have a large volume of printing activities and your printer was converted into a continuous ink system. Warning: converting your printer into a continuous ink system breaks your warranty to the printer.

Troubleshooting printer error must also consider the connectivity of the printer. Some printers are installed into a local computer where you can access the printer directly. Other printers are installed in a computer and served as a printer server. You must have knowledge on Network on this kind of set-up for you to enable fixing printing problems. Some printers are installed into a network cloud which is only accessible through IP (Internet Protocol). You must have also knowledge on managing Network on this kind of set-up to fix printing problems.

In this topic we will concentrate only on fixing printer problem to a printer directly connected to a local computer and also based on your concern.

If you have encountered the following listed problems, do the procedure to fix the problem.

Printer does not respond when I am printing, No error message prompted.

Check your printer settings if it is on-line or not. Printer must be online so that the printing job will be sent to the printer. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click Start and then Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right click on your printer then click Use Printer Online on the pop-up menu. Note: if your printer is online you will see the “Use Printer Offline” on the list of menu. You will also notice that the printer is off-line when the printer’s icon looks like in transparent. Before you proceed on the next step, delete all jobs in the queue. Double click your printer to open the printer’s printing job then on the list selects the printing job then press the Delete key or right click on the printing job then select cancel printing.
  3. Then go back to your document and print.

Printer prompted “Cannot Print this document” error message.

Sometimes we installed printer and its drivers in our computer and later on we replace our printer with a new one and installed its driver. The system will then expected that you have two printers available connected to your computer. During a printing you must select the printer name on the list of printer on the print dialog where you want to print your document. This is very important because you are instructing the computer where you want send your document. Selecting printer which is not connected to your computer will cause error. You may set your default printer so next time you print, the printer currently available will be the default selected printer. To do these follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and then Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right click to the name of the printer that is connected into your computer then select Set as Default Printer.
  3. Then go back to your document and print. You will then notice that the selected printer on the print dialog was the printer you have set as your default printer.

Some errors you will encounter are all explainable, just follow the prompt and do what the system is requesting or accomplished the systems requirement to solve the problem. For instance, the system prompted “The printer is out of paper”, so you must put paper on the printer’s tray. Sometimes printer doesn’t detect papers a little volume of paper on a try so try adding more.

Here is a little instruction when encountering trouble with your computer!

When you want to print a document, you choose print and select your favorite printer but nothing happens. You look at the printer menu and see the pesky printer offline message and instant frustration. The task of the moment is going from offline to online. With creativity and patience, you'll have your printer back online in no time.

1. Attempt to set the printer to online. This may not often work, but it's the first action to take. Go to "Settings" and then "Printers". Right click on the "Printer" and select "Use Printer Online". Test the printer to see if it now prints.

2. Clear any print jobs. Double click on the "Printer" after performing the above step. Go to the "Printer Menu" and select "Cancel All Documents". There could have been a stuck print job that would cause the printer to go offline. Try once again to set the printer back online and try printing a test page.

3. Turn on the printer. Make sure the printer is turned on and turn it off, wait a minute and then turn it on again. Check to see if the is jammed. Check all the network connections to make sure none are loose. Repeat the above steps again if necessary.

4. Restart the computer. If this doesn't work, you will have to reinstall the drivers. Go to "Settings" then "Printers" and select the printer. Right click on the printer and choose "Properties". Under the "General" or "Details Tab" look for the driver button and select it and choose the driver again. You may also have to download the driver from the printer manufacturer website.

5. Reinstall the printer. Under "Printers" in the "Settings" menu, go back and select the printer, then delete the printer and reinstall the printer through the add printer wizard. Use the latest printer driver from the printer manufacturer's website.

I hope it somehow helps you in a little way.
