My Windows Patch Scan does not report any updates.

Hallo there!

Initially I was using Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack II in an environment where there is constant internet connection. Lately I am working in an environment without full time connection. Every time I have the computer connected to the internet I normally carry out Windows patch scan but never get any updates. Could it be something with updates settings? I do not feel like my computer is secure now. Please advise.

Hi there Todd K Graham,

I would like to suggest you to try with some third party utilities to avoid problems you're facing with the Windows patch scan.

One of the better tools for this is Patch Scanner. You can find it at the following link: https://us.norton.com/online-threats/. It will give you the option to check for patches whenever you want, giving you the full list of available updates and their detailed descriptions.
You can also try Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. It is a tool designed by Microsoft that will allow you to check for any available updates and patches when you are online. You can find it at the following link: technet.microsoft.com.

Best regards,
Drake Vivian

Hi Todd,

Always configure your automatic updates. Check windows update once a month.Use Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) to scan your computer for patches or other security issues. Windows updates will inform you for new for updates regarding Windows operating system only. These are the ways to keep your PC patch and up to date.

In Microsoft Windows 7, there is no Service Pack 2. The latest and only Service Pack available to Windows 7 is Service Pack 1. If your computer is working properly and the operating system is running fine, there is really no need to install the latest updates.

If you have Microsoft Windows 7 and you are not using any Service Pack, download and install Windows 7 Service Pack 1. This is the latest and only Service Pack available for Microsoft Windows 7. When you are prompted to restart the computer after the installation, just click to restart the computer. After booting, download Platform Update for Windows 7.

This Platform Update is just optional. The computer will run fine with or without this update but it would be great to install this update because it will improve your computer’s performance on Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
