I have a Samsung Galaxy Y with Android operating system , my phone keeps restarting randomly, Still not sure if it's a hardware or software problem,
Can someone please help me to solve this problem?

I too own galaxy Y and its a very cheap and great value for money phone. Your problem is that it restarts randomly. There must be one of the following causes that causes the restarting problem.
1. Your power button is jammed or is not working properly (hardware issue). Check that its not jammed, because while in power on condition all android phones restart when you hold the power button for more than 5 seconds.
2. You have a faulty Android OS ,Since galaxy Y is released recently i guess your warranty are not over so go to your nearest Samsung customer care service provider and repair your OS.

It seems that there might have a problem has occurred in your Samsung Galaxy Y device Android operating system software or one or more files may be corrupted. So you have to install new operating system software. For your better I am requesting you to take your Samsung Galaxy Y device to customer service center. But you can try the task on your own risk.
To do so, please connect your Samsung Galaxy Y device with your computer by data cable. Then delete the unnecessary files. Keep out memory card from the phone. Then  download a new update of your Android operating system software and install it.
