My open CSV file looks corrupt and indecipherable

Hi!

I have no idea what happened to some of my files on my computer. Whatever happened did not affect all my files but only specific ones. One open CSV file looks corrupt and I would like to recover the file since it has some important data. What can I do to recover a corrupt CSV file? Is there a particular software for this? Thanks big time.

Hi Harvey,

There are actually a lot of third party applications that you can try to fix the file but before you do that you might want to open your file first from a notepad and see if you can. If the file can still be accessed using notepad do the steps below:

  1. Open file from notepad.
  2. Save as File
  3. Type should be Tab Delimited File
  4. The encoding should be UTF-8.
  5. Try opening the file again.

NOTE: Don’t work on the original file. Make a copy of it before you try to mess around with it. We don’t want to do more damage to the original file.

Hi Harvey,

CSV files can be opened by any spreadsheet or database application. Usually the file extension (which you can always see in all files in this format .csv, .doc, .xls and which also determine what kind of file it is) errors generally exist when the correct application program is not properly installed in your computer.

You can scan your computer system to identify and fix any CSV file extension errors through downloading and using the Advance File Optimizer software.

This software program has received five (5) awards for excellent performance. And there has been a positive feedback from the users of it. Advance File Optimizer is compatible with Windows 7, XP and Vista.

I hope this solution works best for you.
