Computer Sleeps when not in use

Hello guys,

My laptop screen keeps on turning off whenever not in use. I know that, it is a feature, but I notice it was longer before. Now it turns off for about a minute idle. I hate this because, whenever I watch streaming sites, I always forget to remind myself to move the mouse for every minute, so that the screen won't turn off and won't disturb my viewing.

How can I remove this feature?

Thanks.

Hi Pittmandianne88,

This guide will help you in modifying the main configurations intended for Vista Power Options. Afterwards, you are encouraged to adjust the options to be able to fit with your preferences.

There are quite a few approaches to go to the actual Power Options screen. Perform any of the steps below:

  • Mouse click or double mouse click the electrical power icon in the system tray located at the lower right hand corner near the clock, and then select "More power options."
  • Simply click the Start button > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Power Options.

At the Power Options window there you will find 3 power presets:

  • Balanced – Equivalent battery power lifespan and general performance.
  • Power Saver – Increased battery power lifespan but reduced general performance.
  • High Performance – Increased overall performance but quicker battery power lifespan.

Press the Balanced button, after that select "Change plan settings."

Each and every individual power plan provides a preset configuration to be able to:

  • Turn off the display – You will be able to pick any specific time frame beginning from one minute. You may also choose various configurations for Battery power and Plugged In power also.
  • Put the computer to sleep – You will be able to decide on any specific time frame starting from one minute. You may also choose various configurations for Battery power and Plugged In power also.
  • Adjust the display brightness – You may also pick alternative configurations for Battery power and Plugged In power too.

For this case, change the Plugged In setting for the Display to turn off at 25 minutes, Never, or whichever you prefer.

Finally, click "Save Changes." to confirm your settings.
