Hi,

I am using Gateway ZX6980 desktop with Windows 7 and it was working fine.

Recently, after doing a windows update, I started getting an issue where it will get stuck during startup and show message "Please wait" for hours. I have tried different ways and nothing worked. I have restored it to factory settings and then it started working fine. But, when it came to Windows Automatic Updates, again same thing happening. It got stuck for 5 hours on Configure windows and now stuck at please wait message like before. I am not finding any other way to try.

Can somebody suggest me how to proceed further? Thanks in advance.

Hi!

This problem was already confirmed by the Microsoft per report on October 12, 2013. It confirmed that after installing the update, a number of issues may have taken place. This includes system reboots on Windows 7 computers.

There are three different ways to do it.

1. Start in "repair" mode and restore to a point before  the update.
2. Startup repair or system restore using the DVD to do this by going into the BIOS and set Boot from DVD as the 1st one to boot. Or
3. Restart the Windows in Debugging Mode by pressing F8 during the restarting of the computer. Explore the Last Known Good Configuration or try booting into Safe Mode and then uninstalling any Windows update when the boot options will show. Do this by going to Control Panel > Programs. Run chkdsk,  restore the system in safe mode.

Now, if your hardware is old, a bad memory slot may be the source of the problem. You may check this by removing one memory chip at a time and check if the problem is solved. Ensure proper return of the memory or replace the memory unit and check again.

If the above does not work, consult the service center.
