My drive would not play any disk

I used to watch DVD movies on my laptop almost every night.  Last night, a DVD stopped middle way and when I took it out and inserted it back, it would not play anymore.  I tried other disks and none would play now.

What happened to my player? I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver and it was successful but still have the same problem. Any one had the same experience?

DVD drive has two laser diodes one laser is for the DVD’s and another one is for the CD’s. They are usually built into one unit but still they are separate.

Please try first if it is only DVD’s that wont play for your drive or is it both DVD’s and CD’s. This laser’s like anything in this world due to wear and tear would die.  You said uninstalling and reinstalling the driver don't work then try to look if there is a latest update for the driver. Also try cleaning the lens although it’s not really advisable.

If everything doesn’t work you probably just have a dead DVD drive. You just have to replace it. Sorry to say that but that’s really the only solution for a dead DVD drive.

Its look like you inserted some infected CD/DVD in your disk drive and you need to check if you are using a infected disk. You can buy a lens cleaner to clean the lens of your disk drive and i hope it will start working properly again.

If there is some other mechanical fault in your CD/DVD then you need a good technician to see your disk drive. Because technical fault can not be repaired by some software and you need to open your disk drive and if you are able to do that it is alright.

Open your disk drive and see for any of jam in your disk drive and see that laser is freely moving along its path and is working perfectly. If you can do this then this is good other wise you need to consult a technician.

The third thing you can do is that check a new CD/DVD in your drive and make sure it is working properly. May be your lens is being infected by some CD/DVD and now it is of no work so you need to check it with a new CD.
