If your computer keeps on restarting every now and then, there is a serious problem in the operating system. There is no use of uninstalling some programs and hoping that one of them is causing the restart and it will fix it. Open your CPU and then remove all attached devices one after the other. Every time a device is removed clean it and then install it back. Like in the RAM memory card, clean the copper end, the part that connects the card to the board, with an ordinary pencil eraser. Do it on both sides and then wipe it off with a clean cloth to remove the bits of rubbing eraser. Check the cables of the hard drive and the CD/DVD-ROM drive if they are properly attached. Check their jumper settings if they both have the right setting.

After checking all the hardware inside the CPU, turn on your computer and see if it still behaves the same. If the frequent restarts still occur, format your hard drive and then install Windows again.

It is hard to tell what it is caused by, because this problem is occurring for many reasons, and caused by software and hardware both. Most common are given here. First of all check your BIOS weather the boot from hard disk is disabled or not. (My computer had the same problem). If it is enable boot from hard disk. When processor doesn’t find anything to boot it restart again and again. If it is not the solution you have another final solution. Install Windows (not Ubuntu), because windows have amazing controlling power it may solve the problem on another partition. So you can recover your files you can also repair Ubuntu but it is not recommended.
