My adobe reader can’t work after installation of Adobe Photoshop CS 5

The adobe reader installed on my laptop had been working without problems until I installed Adobe Photoshop CS 5. Since then, the adobe reader has stopped working. Instead, it only gives a critical report that includes a request to send it to Microsoft.

I have severally tried uninstalling and reinstalling the adobe reader but it returns this error: Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate. Please help me as I cannot open files with pdf format.

There must be only 1 thing that you had done wrong while installing the adobe Photoshop cs5.

As you are saying that after deleting the adobe reader, whenever you try to reinstall it, it says that you have a better version of that or an updated version, which means that you had already unintentionally installed a new adobe reader with the installation of adobe Photoshop cs5.

I myself use the Adobe Photoshop CS4 and when you are going through the process of installation, it asks you if you want to install other products like adobe air, adobe extension kit or adobe reader. If you hadn't unchecked it then it must have installed it on your system.

Now there is no need to install adobe reader separately, just open any PDF, select the option, “Select a program from the list" and then point it to the new installation directory of adobe reader which might be now in the adobe Photoshop cs5 folder.

Was the adobe Photoshop that you had installed on your computer a trial version? Because such behavior is common for trial version applications which have reached their expiry date and the only way to solve the issue remains to install the full version of the application. But I will recommend that you try the following:

  • Uninstall adobe Photoshop from your computer.
  • Run disk clean up to remove all files that are related to it that might be left on the system.
  • Go to the programs files and see if there is an adobe Photoshop folder still there and delete it.

After you have done that, try reinstalling adobe Photoshop and see if it will work.

Hi ExpertTechyv thanks for the list of troubleshooting this problem.

By the way Michelle thank you also. I didn't really notice of that. I thought the package only comes with the Photoshop installer I checked if my files could open just like what you have told me to do and I was able to open them now. I don't have to worry now. 🙂
