Dear All,

Something weird is going on in my computer. I am using an HP computer which is running on Windows XP system. I have not used my computer in the past three weeks as I went out of the country. To my surprise, I encountered an issue with my computer. I can no longer see my accessories folder. This is the part where you get to the programs in the start menu and you’ll be able to locate notepad, calculator and the likes.

Other than me, my younger brother and two of my cousins are using the computer as well, but I do not like to be suspicious of them. So, please just help me so I can fix this.

The accessories folder is really just a bunch of shortcuts in your start menu so if those go missing the files they pointed to are still there, you just have to put back the shortcuts.

I would try running AccRestore. (http://www.winhelponline.com/xp/accessories.htm) It's a small free program that should restore all the shortcuts where they were initially. Chances are they got deleted for some reason or another but it's probably not virus related since I've never seen any adware target things like this as there is no reason to. If that doesn't work post back here with further detail on the problem.

Hi! There are many ways to restore the Accessories folder on your Star Menu.

Try using Explorer. Locate the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStartMenuProgramsAccessories file. Once found, copy and paste it to C:Documents and Settings[LOGON NAME]Start MenuPrograms.

If you can also see it in Explorer, drag and drop it to your Start Menu. Direct your cursor to the Start button and let it stay there until the Start Menu pops up. Put your mouse over to All Programs till it opens and then drop it to the place where it should be.

You can also download the Restore Accessories group tool from this link. You will see instructions on how to restore your accessories folder after downloading the tool.
