MS Sharepoint 2003 can’t access internal site

Hi,

My internal website that was built with MS SharePoint 2003 has been working fine for a couple of months. Recently, I noticed that more and more computers are unable to access it.

I don't have any experience troubleshooting SharePoint and some say I just have to rebuild the website. It would be time consuming I rebuild it.

One of the user reported that this the error he's been getting:

A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out"

The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

Any tips or suggestions on how to fix this?

Regards.

The error might have been due to delayed submission of information to the server. Probably, the user sent the information already after the server’s security validation has timed–out.

As set in Windows SharePoint services, security validation timed-out is 30 minutes. Once a user failed to click “save and close” within 30 minutes, he needs to re-enter and resubmit the data to the server.

To avoid this error:

  • Make sure to submit information within the set timed-out. If you wish to increase the timed-out, then try clicking these buttons – “Start”, “All Programs”, “Administrative Tools” and “SharePoint Central Administration”.
  • After which, go to “Virtual Server Configuration” under Central Administration page then click on “configure virtual server settings”.
  • Under “virtual server list page”, click the virtual server to configure while on “virtual server management” under “virtual settings” page, click on “virtual server general settings”.
  • Look for the “webpage security validation” side and specify the desired number of minutes you want.
  • Lastly, click “ok”.
